Driver Punches Couple in Glendale Road Rage Incident

Friday, September 17th, 2010

A disturbing story from KTLA in Orange County shows that not all auto accidents have to do with car collisions.

According to recent reports, an incident on August 26 involved an elderly couple who came to a stop in their vehicle when encountering a red light at the intersection of Cordova Avenue and Monterey Road. Another motorist who had been previously trying to cut off the couple’s car left his own vehicle, crawled into theirs through the sunroof and began attacking them. The victim started to drive the car, and the enraged assailant had to exit the vehicle, but allegedly tore off the mirror of the car as it moved away from the scene. According to Glendale police, the violent driver is still at large in the area.

This and other recent road rage cases including an Orange County stabbing show that auto incidents can include more than just two vehicles colliding. Police Action Wins Mission Viejo Couple $260,000

Monday, September 13th, 2010

In what turned out to be a prolonged legal battle, a Mission Viejo couple has won a settlement of nearly $260,000 from Orange County after a woman sustained injuries from an altercation with Orange County sheriff’s deputies.

According to reports from the Orange County Register, Mission Viejo resident Toy White got a black eye after she tried to shut the door on the deputies who arrived to deal with a report about her Old English sheepdog. Reports show that the deputies did not have a warrant, and when White tried to shut the door on them, one of them called out that she was resisting arrest. Toy and her husband, Steve White, took the case to court, claiming an assault by the deputies made White fall and hit her face on her stone floor.

This story doesn’t end with a black eye. Further reports indicate that at least one of the deputies involved in that 2007 incident has since received charges on other cases of excessive force, has surrendered his badge, has received a DUI charge and is dealing with suspicion of illegal drug activity.

Cases like this show how aggressive police activity can threaten the welfare of people who then need to rely on Orange County personal injury attorneys to help them go up against a municipality or other responsible party after an injury. Hit and Run Leaves Orange County Cyclist with Possible Brain Injury

Friday, September 10th, 2010

An Orange County bicyclist underwent treatment at a local hospital for head injuries after an August 28 hit and run accident. The Orange County Register reported that the accident happened near the corner of Seal Beach Boulevard and Bradbury Road, in the area around the Rossmoor Shopping Center. At the time of the report, the victim, a male in his mid-20s, was still under evaluation for trauma to the head.

A traumatic brain injury (TBI) can change the course of a life in an instant. This injury generally has three treatment phases. The first phase is acute treatment. Acute treatment encompasses the immediate treatment following the injury where medical personnel monitor and treat the swelling in the brain. The second phase is subacute treatment. Subacute treatment focuses on early rehabilitation through the patient’s release home or to a long-term care facility. The third phase is chronic treatment for which there are two categories: rehabilitation within the community and long-term consequences. The disabilities for patients with moderate to severe brain injury can last throughout life. Therefore, the patient, family and caregivers are all involved in the design and implementation of chronic TBI treatment.

We understand the horrific impact of a traumatic brain injury upon a family. It devastates you emotionally and financially. If you or an immediate family member suffered a brain injury due to the negligence of another party, it is imperative to retain legal counsel to protect your rights.
