California Highway 395 Scene of Fatal Auto Accident

The California Highway Patrol is investigating an accident that occurred on Highway 395 on a Monday evening. The accident involved multiple vehicles, and there were several deaths reported. It took place just outside of Bishop, California when a Sports Utility Vehicle heading south veered out of its lane, struck an oncoming van and instantly burst into flames. Another vehicle following the SUV then ran into the burning vehicle. The van struck by the SUV was part of a caravan traveling with the California Baptist University. Everyone in the Sports Utility Vehicle died, and at least one person traveling in the California Baptist University van suffered death. There were also reports of other serious injuries.

Passenger Van Rollover Accident Paralyzes Teenager

A 19-year-old Biggs teen suffered serious injuries in a passenger van rollover accident documented in a Gridley Herald article. Accident investigators say the accident occurred around 1:50 p.m., Saturday, September 12, 2009, on the Midway between Richvale and Durham. The van she was driving left the roadway and rolled several times. The teen was transporting a Cathy’s Christian Cottage resident to a wedding in Chino. The passenger suffered broken ribs in the accident, but the van’s driver was trapped in the wreckage of the van.

The driver suffered severe injuries that have left her paralyzed from the chest down with limited function in her arms and hands. Her neck was broken in the accident and severely stretched by the impact. She is currently being treated at a spinal cord injury rehabilitation center. Her family has planned fundraisers to help defer the costs of medical and rehabilitative care.

Passenger vans are frequently used to transport groups of people to various functions for churches, schools, sports events and many other events.
