suv truck accident attorneyImperial County, Calif. (March 2, 2021) — On Tuesday morning, a Ford Expedition SUV, carrying 27 passengers, collided with a semi-truck hauling trailers of gravel, leaving at least 15 people dead. The cause of the crash is under investigation.

Fourteen people were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The others have been hospitalized for serious injuries, including the big-rig driver. 

Seven patients were brought to El Centro Regional Medical Center, one of which died shortly after arrival, according to Judy Cruz, the managing director of the Emergency Room Department. The hospital called to transport the remaining patients to other facilities for immediate treatment. 

Two patients were taken to Pioneers Memorial Hospital in Brawley, California.

Four patients were airlifted to the trauma center at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, California. Three of the patients are in intensive care, reported by hospital spokesperson, Todd Burke. 

California Highway Patrol Officer, Arturo Platero told CNN the SUV was driving westbound on Norrish Road when it traveled “in the direct path” of the semi-truck traveling northbound on the highway. 

At least two other fatal accidents have occurred at the same location, according to UC Berkeley’s Transportation Injury Mapping System.
