California bus crash leaves 20 injured, 6 critically
Buses, in general, are a safer mode of transportation due to their massive size. However, they are not invulnerable to accidents. When a bus is involved in an accident, its passengers, who are often not wearing seatbelts, can suffer serious injuries or even die.
On Sunday, May 22, 2016, a shuttle bus carrying 22 people returning from a women’s church retreat flipped over on a highway in California’s San Bernardino Mountains. Six people suffered serious injuries, while an additional 14 others were left with minor injuries. All 20 victims were the ambulance to a nearby hospital.
The bus turned on its side across State Route 330 shortly after 2 p.m. Upon its decent down the mountain, the 2000 El Dorado bus made contact with a Nissan Versa sedan. The highway was shut down for hours for a 16-mile stretch near Highland, while the bus lay on its right side diagonally across the road blocking the entire highway.
Important Steps You Need to Take After a Bus Accident
When you are injured in a bus accident, it can significantly alter your life and the lives of your loved ones. The best way to deal with the aftermath of a bus accident is to know what to do ahead of time. Our experienced Los Angeles bus accident attorneys recommend bus accident victims to consider the following steps to protect their legal rights:
- Move to a safe location.
- Get immediate medical attention, even if your injuries seem minor.
- File a police report, if the police do not come to the scene of the accident.
- Contact an experienced personal injury attorney to help you obtain the full potential of your claim for the injuries you have suffered.
Although filing a personal injury claim will not turn back time and make your injuries go away, it will help you obtain the financial assistance you and your family members need to pay for your expensive medical treatments. It may also be an important step in bringing closure to a horrific nightmare.
