Although the bipartisan Assembly majorities backed the measure, it found no fans among motorcycle groups, who viewed the bill as too restrictive. They argued that lane splitting is already widely accepted in California. On the flip side, supporters of the measure, such as the Personal Insurance Federation of California, backed the measure based on the argument that lane-splitting rules would help reduce devastating accidents and improve public safety.
