OC Fair Shuts Down G Force Ride After Fatal Ohio Accident

The Orange County Fair officials made a decision to shut down the G Force ride after a deadly accident involving a similar ride in Ohio. According to an article in The Orange County Registrar, the company took apart the ride for inspection. An OC Fair spokeswoman stated that they chose to shut down the ride as soon as they heard of the fatal accident in Ohio involving a similar ride at their fair.

Fears of Fair Goers

The G Force ride is the type of ride that spins and swings riders through the air. Tyler Jarell, 18, of Columbus, Ohio died when the Fire Ball ride at the Ohio State Fair malfunctioned by sending riders into the air. Seven other riders were seriously injured in the same accident. The Ohio State Fair is one of the largest in the country. Fire Ball rides in six other parks in California, including Knott’s Berry Farm, were shut down as a result.

The Amusement ride and Tramway Unit of the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health contacted several owners of the ride, including OC Fair officials, asking them to shut down until receiving clearance from its manufacturers.
