The G Force ride is the type of ride that spins and swings riders through the air. Tyler Jarell, 18, of Columbus, Ohio died when the Fire Ball ride at the Ohio State Fair malfunctioned by sending riders into the air. Seven other riders were seriously injured in the same accident. The Ohio State Fair is one of the largest in the country. Fire Ball rides in six other parks in California, including Knott’s Berry Farm, were shut down as a result.
The Amusement ride and Tramway Unit of the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health contacted several owners of the ride, including OC Fair officials, asking them to shut down until receiving clearance from its manufacturers.
When someone is injured or dies on a malfunctioning amusement park or carnival ride, there are a number of parties that may be held liable. When a serious accident happens at the fair, the administrators, ride operators and other parties may be held responsible for the resulting injuries, damages and death. Injured victims may be entitled to compensation for their past and future medical expenses, loss of income, and pain and suffering.
Families of deceased victims may also be entitled to monetary damages by filing a wrongful death claim. With the help of an experienced carnival ride accident attorney, victims and their families can get a better understanding of their legal rights and options.
