Car Veered Onto Sidewalk in Downtown Los Angeles, Leaving Several People Seriously Injured by Lupita’s Flowers
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA(February 24, 2026) – Multiple pedestrians were seriously injured in a downtown Los Angeles car accident after an SUV drove onto a sidewalk by the intersection of San Julian Street and E. 8th Street.
Los Angeles County officials are saying that the accident took place around 11:45 AM on Tuesday. An SUV was traveling in the heart of the flower district when it suddenly veered onto a sidewalk outside of a flower shop.
Multiple pedestrians were hit in the accident before the SUV came to a stop. Paramedics were called to the scene outside of Lupita’s Flowers to help all of the victims.
They began rendering aid to a 13-year-old boy who was knocked to the ground. That person sustained injuries to his foot as well as his back.
A full investigation into the crash remains ongoing at this time.
Every job in California must operate with the care necessary to avoid hitting any pedestrian. To that end, they must maintain their vehicle at a safe speed at all times. Pursuant to California Vehicle Code 21954, drivers must yield the right-of-way to any pedestrian crossing at a marked crosswalk. Even if a pedestrian is outside of a marked crosswalk, this does not relieve a driver of their duty of care to slow down to avoid the pedestrian. There are several factors that could contribute to any pedestrian collision.
When a driver fails to slow down to avoid colliding with any pedestrian, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. There is a presumption of negligence on the part of any driver that enters onto a sidewalk before colliding with any pedestrian. These accidents nearly always involved drivers that were speeding, distracted, or committing some other traffic infraction. However, it is worth investigating the possibility that some issue with a vehicle may have caused a driver to lose control.
Los Angeles has a high concentration of pedestrians who navigate the city on a daily basis. This inevitably leads to a number of major injury collisions between drivers and pedestrians. According to the County of Los Angeles Public Health, “Bicyclists in unincorporated parts of Los Angeles County were involved in 815 traffic collisions between 2019 and 2022 resulting in 12 deaths and 121 severe injuries. During the same time, there were 1,333 pedestrian-involved traffic collisions that led to 153 deaths and 301 severe injuries.” It is important that certain measures are taken after any pedestrian accident.
It can be difficult to know what to do if you’ve been injured in a pedestrian accident. These incidents can leave victims with serious physical and psychological injuries. They may need to take extensive periods of time away from work. To make matters worse, insurance providers will look to do everything in their power to undermine victims. This is why it’s so important for victims to speak with an experienced attorney before anyone else.
