A freak pedestrian accident has claimed the life of man who was simply in the wrong place at the right time according to accident investigators. They say that the victim was walking along Western Avenue around 3:15 a.m. when a 2008 Dodge Caliber driven by a Georgia man drove off the street and hit a traffic signal. The force was such that the traffic signal fell over and struck the man as he walked along the street.
“The impact of the crash caused the signal to hit a pedestrian standing on the northwest corner of Western Avenue and Pico Boulevard,” said a Los Angeles Police officer at the accident scene. Paramedics responding to the accident pronounced the victim dead at the scene. The driver of the Dodge is under investigation for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
“Detectives say that the suspect appeared to display symptoms of being under the influence and was subsequently taken into custody,” said a statement issued by the LAPD.
