Ride malfunction left three people injured, one in critical condition.
Riverside, Calif. — A log ride attraction encountered a malfunction that left three people injured, one in critical condition, at Castle Park amusement park on Saturday, May 25. At around 4:30 p.m., two adults and a child were ejected from the log-shaped car as the motor-operated cart approached the bottom of the water-slide.
Officials reported the accident injured a total of five people. Of the three in focus, one victim was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital in critical condition. The other two victims, including a 10-year-old boy, were treated for minor injuries.
According to Castle Park, the log ride advertises as “one of the steepest and largest log rides ever built…” with a 48-foot drop. Fire department officials disclosed the cause of accident was due to a mechanical issue with the attraction’s water pump that was used to slow down the ride. Without the function of that water pump, when the cart approached high speeds on an exceedingly steep slope the log-shaped car was forcefully overturned.
Guests noted that the ride had been closed earlier in the day, but had reopened around 2 p.m. A full investigation is underway.
Amusement Park Liability
The unique attractions at an amusement park can provide a great deal of entertainment, but they can pose an inherent risk of injury. When people get injured in amusement parks or theme parks, they may be entitled to compensation for their injuries. When amusement park owners breach this duty, they can be held responsible for any resulting injury to the victims.
