The Desert Hot Springs bus accident is deemed to be one of the worst and deadliest tour bus crashes in over 30 years. The USA Holiday tour bus was headed back to Los Angeles in the early morning hours on Sunday, October 23, 2016. The majority of the passengers were asleep after spending much of the evening at the Red Earth Casino in Thermal. Unfortunately, their trip never reached its Los Angeles destination. Instead, it ended in Desert Hot Springs when the bus crashed into the back of a big rig while traveling at a high speed.
The horrific accident left thirteen people dead and 31 others injured. As the Los Angeles Time reports, the accident is one of the deadliest in California history. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash and expects to publish its conclusions in late 2017. The USA Holiday carried a $5 million insurance policy to cover bodily injury and property damage, according to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.
