Busses are a popular mode of transportation. They have also become a favorite mode of entertainment as a part of tours, especially for the elderly. Although the massive size of a bus might make it seem indestructible or safe for passengers during an accident, it does not make it foolproof. When a bus is involved in an accident, passengers, who are often not wearing their seat belts, can get severely injured.

Bus Accident AttorneyOn Thursday, August 22nd, a tour bus that was heading to the San Manuel Indian Bingo and Casino in Highland overturned on the 210 Freeway in Irwindale, shutting down all traffic on the eastbound lanes just past the 605 Freeway interchange. Although it is still too early for authorities to tell how the bus overturned, witnesses state that the bus was going approximately 70 mph when the driver slammed on the brakes and caused the bus to land on its side. The passengers, who were mostly elderly, landed on top of each other.

Bystanders and emergency crew were able to pull out the passengers as quickly as possible. A total of 55 people were injured and seven people were taken by helicopter to local hospitals.

What To Do After a Bus Accident

The best way to deal with the aftermath of a bus accident is to be prepared ahead of time. Our Irwindale personal injury lawyers have prepared a list of the immediate steps you should take if you are involved in a bus accident:

  1. Move to a safe location, if possible.
  2. Seek immediate medical attention, even if you think you have not suffered serious injuries.
  3. Try to file a police report.
  4. Contact an experienced attorney who will help you preserve evidence, collect information from witnesses, and even conduct an independent investigation of the cause of the accident to determine who is at fault.

The bottom line is that, regardless of whether the bus company is public or private, they are a “common carrier” that has a responsibility to keep you and all of their passengers safe. If you or a loved one has been hurt or has died in a bus accident, you are entitled to compensation.
