Yankee Fan Injured by Falling Concrete Chunk at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles
Protective Netting Installed Under Area Where Fan Was Hit By Falling Concrete Chunk

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA (May 31, 2025) – A Yankees fan was injured after he was hit by a falling piece of concrete in Section 10 at the Dodgers Stadium during the third inning of the game.
Los Angeles County officials are saying that the incident took place on Friday night in a World Series rematch. A large chunk of concrete debris dislodged from the ceiling and hit the fan.
Paramedics were called to the scene in order to assist the victim. A photo of the concrete chunk showed that it was roughly the size of a baseball.
After being attended to by medical personnel for trauma, he went back to his seating area with an ice pack. At some point after the incident, a series of protective netting was installed in order to protect fans from additional falling chunks.
A full investigation of the accident at Dodgers Stadium remains ongoing.
Liability for Injuries at Baseball Stadiums
Injuries during baseball games may seem like freak occurrences, but they are actually relatively common. Many of the injuries involve fans being hit by foul balls. According to the Los Angeles Times, “A recent study found that more than 800 fans had been injured by baseballs while attending a Major League Baseball game during the last eight seasons.” But there are a number of other potential hazards that fans have to deal with aside from foul balls.
- Trips: Many people have been injured while climbing or descending stairs at baseball stadiums.
- Falls: A number of people have also been injured after falling over the railing designed to protect attendees.
- Violence: Sports occasionally bring out the worst in people. Many fans have been injured in assaults involving rival attendees.
Property owners have a legal obligation to protect their guests from foreseeable sources of harm. Pursuant to California Civil Code 1714, everyone is responsible for the lack of ordinary care in the management of their property, which results in the injury of another person. If a property owner has actual or constructive notice about a dangerous condition with their property, they must take action. Failing to take action to remedy the dangerous condition could form the basis of a negligence claim.
Property owners will need to periodically inspect their premises and take action to avoid guests being hit by falling debris or objects. Consider, for example, Solen v. Singer, 89 Cal. App. 2d 708 (Cal. Ct. App. 1949). A deliveryman was injured after being hit in the head by a trapdoor as he exited the basement. The court held that the property owner was contributorily negligent for not properly securing the door, especially since he knew that such doors required a locking bar. It is important that certain actions are taken after any injury at a property.
- The condition of the property at the time of the accident should be well documented.
- All medical records related to injuries should be preserved.
- An experienced personal injury attorney should be contacted.
Certain types of accidents at baseball stadiums and other locations are highly predictable. By the time any person is seriously injured, there have often been many similar incidents or close calls. Part of the problem is that property owners failed to take adequate protective measures when they could. In far too many situations, this is only done after someone has already been seriously injured. It is important that accident victims understand that they do have legal options. They are able to seek some measure of accountability through civil claims.
