BEVERLY GROVE, CALIFORNIA (September 8, 2026) – One person has tragically died and another four people were injured in a Beverly Grove car accident just outside of a Trader Joe’s parking lot.

Los Angeles County officials are saying the incident occurred around 1:21 PM on September 3. A white Tesla driven by a 91-year-old driver reportedly crashed into a security stand.

As a consequence of that accident, one woman was tragically killed, and another four people were injured. Paramedics were called to the scene to help all of the victims.

Investigators believe that the driver of the Tesla was traveling at a high rate of speed at the time of the crash. It remains unclear if that driver attempted to hit the brakes.

A full investigation remains ongoing.

Liability for Beverly Grove Car Accidents

Drivers in California have a legal obligation to operate their vehicles with the prudence and care necessary to avoid hitting pedestrians and structures. This necessitates that they continuously scan the road ahead of them and maintain a safe speed at all times under California Vehicle Code 22350. Drivers should be particularly cautious in parking lots due to the constant flow of pedestrians and vehicles that travel through them. Courts will take into consideration numerous factors when evaluating liability for any car accident that happened inside of a parking lot.

  • The speed of the driver involved in the crash will be taken into consideration.
  • Investigators will look to determine whether the driver may have suffered some type of medical event.
  • It is also important to consider whether the vehicle involved may have had some type of mechanical problem.
  • The event data recorder from the vehicle involved can help reveal how it was being driven prior to the crash.

When a driver fails to slow down to avoid colliding with pedestrians, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. Especially in accidents with older drivers, pedal confusion often plays a role. A driver may confuse the brakes for the accelerator before plowing into the front of a store or a group of people. Liability for a Tesla car accident could potentially extend to Tesla. This is particularly true if the vehicle was in self-driving mode and there was some type of malfunction that caused the vehicle to hit a fixed object.

Steps to Take After Los Angeles Parking Lot Accidents

Car accidents remain one of the leading causes of preventable injury and death for people across the United States. A large portion of these collisions occur in parking lots and other open areas. According to one report by the NHTSA, accidents in parking lots represented as much as 15 to 25% of all pedestrian-related collisions. A number of different steps should be taken after any accident involving a Tesla vehicle in a parking lot.

  • The police should be called to the scene as early as possible so that they can begin investigating.
  • It should be determined if the Tesla was operating autonomously at the time of the collision.
  • Medical records related to a person’s injuries should be collected.
  • Victims or their surviving family should seek an independent review by a team experienced in accident reconstruction and negligence claims.

Accidents involving Tesla vehicles can be highly complex. These cars have autonomous and semi-autonomous features that can be engaged. Unfortunately, these technological features do not always work as intended. There have been a number of situations where a Tesla allegedly collided with emergency vehicles that were stopped. Any person injured due to the negligent actions of a driver and a Tesla may be able to seek some measure of accountability through a civil claim.
